The summer has begun. Schouwburgplein Rotterdam has planned a series of dazzling Wednesday afternoon programs especially for kids. Meet a silly superhero, take part in dance and theater performances from the SKVR or stretch your body during the kids yoga class. Most of the programs are in Dutch. But with a little help from eachother the performances will be joyfull for everyone!

This weekend the Schouwburgplein is all about old-fashioned fun for and with your Rotterdam co-residents! On Saturday, Marja van Katendrecht invites you to her dazzling Bingo show. Marja was proclaimed Mayor of Camping Rotterdam a few years ago and has now become the Dutch ambassador of Rotterdam. With a lot of fun she fights loneliness and connects people through fun shows, songs and a nice drink. The bingo will take place from 15:00-18:00 on the F&B Stadsterras on Schouwburgplein.
This Sunday it's time for another Gumbo Session, organized by the residents' association of the Rotterdam city center. Meet, join a jam session and enjoy a musical performance by blues and jazz singer Barbara St. James. From 14:30-17:30 on and around the stage.
The activities are free and open to everyone. See you at the Schouwburgplein!
The coming months you can celebrate the summer in the city of Rotterdam with a series of (free) festival events at the Schouwburgplein. Drift away with Italian tunes, dance to Mesopotamian rhythms and feel the heat of an Indian Summer.
On Sunday 11 July we kick off with the sounds of the Davina Marinozzi trio, poetry powered by Poetry Slam Rotterdam and relaxed tunes by DJ Soulbird. The Italian jazz trio Davina Marinozzi sets the tone with catchy and playful songs, combined with stylish jazz, swing and mambo! On Saturday 17 July you can participate in an old-fashioned Rotterdam bingo presented by actor, theater maker Art-Jan de Vries on the F&B Stadsterras on Schouwburgplein. On Sunday 18 July, bluesman Keith Dunn and the Rotterdam city center residents invite you to the annual Gumbo Session. During this open-air jam session you can play along and enjoy a swinging guest performance by jazz & blues singer Barbara St. James. Barbara St. James is known for her unique tribe, creativity and sense of swing, inspired by the big names of jazz, blues and soul.
For the yogis among us there is a relaxing and challenging yoga workshop every Sunday from 11:00-12:00. Note: there is limited space this year. Safe yourself a spot by registration, one day in advance via this site. Oh yes... Also nice this year: especially for the young energetic souls, there is a special yoga kids edition on Wednesday 28 July for children aged 6-12 years.

Extra and adapted terrace facilities that meet the new Corona regulations will soon be made available on and around the Schouwburgplein Rotterdam. One example is the opening of a temporary outdoor bar that will be placed at the square. The plan for the new terrace facilities was developed in collaboration with the ondernemers-vereniging and the Gemeente Rotterdam.

We were hoping for a miracle, but unfortunately we have to inform you that Yoga on 't Schouwburgplein is canceled until the frist of September due to the Corona-virus. Because we consider staying active as very important for our national wellbeing, various Rotterdam yoga schools now also teach online. After years of being an indispensable member of the Schouwburgplein team, coordinator and program leader Karen van der Spek will leave the ship. As a coordinator, she was involved with everything that happened in the square, and contributed to the working of the square as a whole: a lively urban place where people like to stay and are able to experience culture, yoga and the city.

On March 18, an extensive article about 7 Square Endeavor was published in which process manager Jeroen de Leeuw tells about the realization of this longterm sustainability project on the Schouwburgplein. The first goal is to transform the Schouwburgplein into a total climate neutral square by 2030. There is a good chance of success, "because", says De Leeuw, "we are an interesting test area. It works because we work together and we all want the same thing. ”

On behalf of the entrepreneurs and residents that are based around the Schouwburgplein six beautiful Christmas trees with lighting and decorations were installed on the square. During the Gumbo Session on the Schouwburgplein, residents of the inner city of Rotterdam provide a wonderful open-air jam session complete with delicious snacks, accompanied by inner-city resident and blues man Keith Dunn. Next to set performances, you are able to participate, bring your own instrument, feel the vibe, taste the Gumbo Bites and enjoy the many special guests. Music and theater lovers of all ages are welcome to celebrate the summer at the Schouwburgplein. During the summer holiday, every Wednesday afternoon, we organize the most fun, exiting and creative kids-performance for the whole family. Free of charge, so bring your friends and family!
This summer you can enjoy the Rotterdam Unlimited Kids program (24 July), the SKVR participatory dance-performance De Dierenwinkel 6+ (31 July), De Vriendelijke Draak 4+ by De Grote Haay (7 Aug), Superloeser 6+ by the Rotterdams youth company Lefkop (14) aug), Van Mij 4+ by Koek en Ui (21 aug) and the play-along performance Lang & Gelukkig by the SKVR (28 aug).

The new yoga season of the Schouwburg will start on Sunday 12 May 2019. From then on, every Sunday you are invited for a free open air yoga workshop from 11: 00-12: 00.
Every lesson is free and is provided by a Rotterdam yoga school. It is the perfect opportunity to get fit and acquainted with different yoga styles. From exciting Kundalini and playful Wobbel yoga to highly energetic BodyBalance and Functional Pilates classes. Join!
